    Chada Katavi & Greystoke Mahale

    Katavi - Mahale

The most unique week you can imagine

East Africa's new frontier, two of the most remote parks in Tanzania. 4 nights of Katavi's humbling space, intense big game and authentic tented simplicity followed by 3 nights in the iconic tropical lakeside retreat of Greystoke Mahale, surrounded by forest and chimps. A truly unforgettable safari experience.

    What to expect:

In Katavi expect to see huge concentrations of buffalo, hippo & crocodile, as well as elephant, lion, leopard and a wide variety of Plains game & birdlife. Small authentic tented camp located in excellent game country, with a chance to also fly camp and walk.

In Mahale, as well as days spent chimping, expect to see other forest game, warthog, baboon (even down on the beach) and possibly even leopard as well as great flowers, trees and exceptional birdlife. Enjoy some kayaking, fishing and even swimming and snorkelling to view the phenomenal variety of cichlids, many endemic to Lake Tanganyika - one vast tropical fish aquarium.

    Day 6: Greystoke Mahale

After breakfast in the mess, the scouts and trackers will tell you the whereabouts of the chimps. Head off in two groups of six, walking up the narrow mountain trails to find them.

On reaching the chimps, spend an hour with them whilst they do their own thing, eating, foraging, playing, squabbling...

After a well-earned lunch in the mess, head off snorkelling or for a swim further out in the lake.

At sunset enjoy a beach supper under the stars as the sun sets over the lake.

    Day 7: Greystoke Mahale

Start the day with more chimp trekking after breakfast; take snacks along with you, sometimes you have to walk quite far.

If you've walked far the boat might meet you and take you back to camp, stopping near the waterfalls for a swim in the ice-cold rock pools.

Once back at camp, catch up on the day's stories around the bar, before dinner in the main mess.
