15 Day Tour Programme
Your tour starts in Addis Ababa, the home of the African Union and many international organizations, with a visit to the Entoto mountains (with views over the capital), the old palace, the National museum and St. George's church. Overnight in a Hotel.
Fly to Bahirdar, and then transfer to the hotel for check-in. In the morning drive to admire the Blue Nile falls and then back for lunch in Bahirdar. Afternoon boat trip on Lake Tana to admire the beautiful monasteries over the lake's islands, Ura Kidane Mehret and Mahal Zeghie Gyorgis. Overnight in a Hotel.
Early departure to Gondar, the medieval city of Ethiopia. Check in to your hotel and then visit the castles and churches in Gondar. You will get to see the castle's compound, the Debre Birhan Sellasie church, which translates as 'the light of Trinity with wonderful murals', the King Fasiladas bath, the old Qusquam monastery and the Empress Mentewab palace. Overnight in a Hotel in Gondar.
Fly to Lalibela, the 12th century civilization of Ethiopia, and what is defined as the 8th wonder in the world. In the afternoon visit the first group of the rock-hewn churches. Overnight in a Hotel in Lalibela.
In the morning there is the oppurtunity to visit one of the churches out of the town. We suggest an excursion by mules to the Asheten Mariam church, the views are spectacular, or by car to the cave church of Naktuleab. The afternoon will be spent visiting the remaining churches in Lalibela, there will also be some free time to walk around and relax. Overnight at a Hotel.
Fly to Axum, check in to your hotel and then visit the stellaes, St. Mary of Tsion church (where legend states that the Ark of Covenant is being stored), the bath and palace of The Queen of Sheba, tombes of kings, and other amazing archeological sites. Overnight in a Hotel in Axum.
Fly to Addis Ababa. There will then be a rest stop in a café before driving to Langano to admire the crater lakes of Debre Zeith, the Rift Valley lakes of Shala and Abyata. Overnight in a Lodge in Langano or a Hotel in Awassa.
Drive through the Wolayta land with its spectacular green hills before criss-crossing the villages of the wolayta people before moving on to Arbaminch. Afternoon drive to Chencha, to see the Dorze people, famous for their unique culture, houses, and traditions. Overnight in a Hotel in Arbaminch.
Drive to Turmi, admiring on the way the Konso, Derase and Tsemay people. Then proceed on to visit the very colorful Hamar people and the land of the 'beautiful people'. Overnight in a Lodge in Turmi.
Morning excursion to the villages of the Dassanech people at Omo Rate on the banks of Omo River. We then return to Turmi to visit the very colourful Monday market at Turmi village held by the Hamer, Karo and Dassanech people. The afternoon is then free for you to observe the fascinating Hamer people and to visit their villages. Overnight is a Lodge.
Drive to visit the Karo people where you will be able to see the fascinating body decoration and scarification these people are famous for. You will also get to see some beautiful views over Omo river from Kortcho village. Proceed then to the Mago National park. Overnight camping within the Park.
Game drive into the Mago National park, admiring different mammals and birds on the way; and then proceed on to visit the Mursi people and their villages, known as 'the land of the lip-plates' in the mountains.
Drive back to Arbaminch with the oppurtunity to visit the very colorful Thursday market of the Tsemay and Erbore people at Keyafer village. We will then proceed to Konso and if time permits visit one of the villages of the Konso people. Overnight in a Hotel in Arbaminch.
Morning visit to the Netch Sar National park, sanctuary of the endemic Swaynes Hartebeest, numerous zebras, lesser kudu and birds. In the afternoon there will be a boat trip on Chamo Lake, home of the biggest crocodiles in Africa, (up to 6 metres long), as well as hippos. Overnight in a Hotel.
Drive back to Addis Ababa. There will be time for souvenir and other shopping before enjoying a traditional dinner with folkloristic dances. It will then be time to depart to your respective country.
